Mr. Wafe Risner
We honor Wafe because of his incredible contributions and dedication to our beloved sport.
The Wafer.
Lorin Wafe Risner, otherwise know as "The Wafer," passed Jan. 28 at 100 years of age. Risner was born in Thayer, MO., the same year his beloved LAAC opened its doors.
Following moves between California and Utah, Wafe joined Hughes Aircraft where he was responsible for the sales and marketing of the flexible automatic circuit tester system known as F.A.C.T. Although Wafe played handball as early as 19 it was after retirement that he became the face of handball at the LAAC.
Wafe competed no matter where the event and made lifelong friends wherever he went. Wafe was honored with the So. Cal Ambassador Award in 2002 and the award now carries his name. While Court 2 is named for Jimmy Jacobs, Court 1 is now named after "The Wafer." The Wafe Risner Fund is named in his honor and helps juniors and college players attend events.
Wafe is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marjorie M. Risner, his two daughters, Linda Kay Wood and Susan Risner, his four grandchildren and a great granddaughter. Wafe also leaves behind a unique and dedicated fraternity of handball players.
